Promise Rings

Before the final moment when a man and a woman tie the knot, it is customary for the man to give his fiance an engagement ring. This ring is often, but not always, a diamond ring. However, what many couples do not know is that there is an additional stage preceding  the couple’s engagement altogether; this stage is that of the promise ring.

A promise ring, also known as pre-engagement rings, is used when the couple is interested in expressing their wish to be monogamous, and, often tacitly and not explicitly agreed, that the relationship moving forward towards engagement. Since you should never make a promise unless you are intent on keeping it, the promise ring is a serious matter. The Promise ring  represents a pledge to be loyal, to have faith in each other, and to always be there for each other. Whenever you make any type of pledge to be there for your loved one, know that there is no better way to symbolize this beautiful pledge than a promise ring.

Though often associated with monogamy between to people and that perhaps that engagement is on the horizon, promise rings can represent other things as well. For example, there are chastity, abstinent or purity rings. These are also a type of promise ring, but a promise made by a child to his or her parent. Such a promise ring represents the child’s commitment to their parents to stay chaste until they are married. Parents who want to instill the idea of pure love and waiting for that special someone can give their child this ring. Another type of promise ring that is given by the parent to the child symbolizes the child’s promise to remain substance-free.

Of course, there is another popular type of promise ring. A promise from one friend to another to always be true and honest and supportive. Best friends often give each other necklaces with half-hearts to symbolize true friendships. A promise ring is always a good idea if you want to show your best friend that your friendship is dear to you.

The promise ring doesn’t have to be made of a specific material: there are silver promise rings, gold-plated promise rings, and many more. Even a plastic promise ring would work if you just want to brighten up your friend’s day!
