Gold Promise Rings

gold promise rings

gold promise ringsWhat’s the difference between gold wedding rings and gold promise rings? Besides the obvious, namely, that gold wedding rings are for wedded people and gold promise rings are for promised people, gold wedding rings are relatively boring because western society has dictated that they must be, whereas gold promise rings can be as interesting as you could possibly want from a ring, except maybe a really flamboyant cocktail ring.

Aside from being forged in the fires of Mount Doom, a gold promise ring can have whatever you want on it. Two hearts, two dolphins, two walruses with big gold tusks that go all the way down to the wrist and serve as a hand brace, my mind could wonder to all kinds of places. In fact, this is a great reason to get a gold promise ring. Now that I’m thinking about it, I wish I had before I got married.

Say you get really mad at your spouse. What sometimes happens during fights, if they get serious, nothing will stop you from slipping off your gold wedding ring and flinging it at your spouse’s forehead. After all, all it is, is a gold band with nothing on it. But imagine you had a gold promise ring. And not just any gold promise ring, but a gold promise ring featuring a walrus, the animal that you were both looking at in the aquarium when you first saw each other and fell in love because you both identified with the tusks since you both had really buck teeth as children.

There’d be no way you’d be able to slip off a walrus themed gold promise ring and fling it at your wife in the middle of a fight. First of all, the tusks might cause damage if they hit flesh. Second of all, you can’t take off a gold promise ring like that without laughing first and falling in love with each other in the heat of the moment and making up right then in there. There is a very thin line between anger and passion. A gold promise ring might be that line.

And besides, you don’t just want to have the sleek look of your gold wedding ring flashing back at you every time you look down. Don’t forget who you two were before you turned you relationship into a contractual agreement. This is why you need a gold promise ring. To remember when your relationship only hinged on your word. A word you kept, symbolized by the walrus. Of course.
